S.F. No. 189 -Public Safety Officer Death Benefits Payment to Estates

Section 1 requires that the death benefit under Minnesota Statutes, section 299A.44, for a public safety officer killed in the line of duty who has no surviving spouse or dependents be paid to the officer's estate. A public safety officer is defined as a peace officer, firefighter, corrections officer, ambulance driver, arson investigator, paramedic or hazardous material responder.

Section 2 provides for a retroactive July 1, 2002, effective date.
