S.F. No. 188 - Public Employers Disabled Officers or Firefighters Continued Health Insurance Coverage Costs Reimbursements

Section 1 requires unallocated appropriations to the Public Safety Officer's Benefit Account to be carried forward until all claims for reimbursement under Minnesota Statutes, section 299A.465 (Continued Health Insurance Coverage), for that fiscal year have been either paid or denied.

Section 2 requires the Commissioner of Public Safety to reimburse public employers for continued insurance coverage under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 299A.465, at the close of each fiscal year. If funds are insufficient to cover all approved claims, the Commissioner must prorate reimbursement to each public employer.

Section 3 requires the Commissioner to transfer $294,604 from the department's fiscal year 2003 general fund operating budget to cover claims under this chapter that were denied in fiscal year 2002.

Sections 1 and 2 of the bill have a retroactive July 1, 2002, effective date.
