Section 1 proposes an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, which would provide that only the union of one man and one woman is valid or recognized as a marriage in Minnesota. Any other relationship would not be recognized as a marriage or its legal equivalent.

Section 2 contains the constitutional question for section 1, which would be on the ballot at the 2004 general election.
